DDC Fundraiser Raffle Ticket Sales

Digital Development Corp. is hosting a fundraiser on November 20th, to help promote four(4) major causes; The DDC-Africa project, the Chicago school system, building a better community on the westside of Chicago, as well as the senior citizens programs.

Help DDC raise money to make a positive change in the world. Alongside helping the community, participants are automatically entered in a raffle to win great prizes: like 2 iPads, a night for 2 at the Sybaris (Northbrook, IL) and a 10 hours of IT service in the home or office of your choice.

The concert will feature the talented Nanette Frank. Singapore press holdings have acclaimed her "One of the best Jazz singers in the world," and "One of Chicago's jazz greats" -WGN morning News.

The event will also feature Issac, The Master of Magicians, and talented comedian, Brenda Hall. So come on out and enjoy the night with us here at DDC. Tickets are available for purchase starting November 4th, 2011

The Digital Development Corp is working with Accra, Ghana's NGO's to provide computers and internet for Ghana schools and children in need. They plan to deliver 500 working computers by September 2011. In this video Lowry Taylor and his staff collected donations from generous company's in the mid-west.

Congress announces Second Chance Community Reentry Grants.

On a beautiful, Sun splashed, early Autumn morning Congressman Danny K. Davis stood in front of Malcolm X Community College (located at 1700 W. Jackson Blvd.) with Representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice, Representatives from the Cook County Sheriff's Department, and and community Representatives to announce the awarding of 100 million dollars in Second Chance Act Grants at a press conference.

Congressman Danny K. Davis was the chief sponsor of the historic and landmark Second Chance Act, which was passed by Congress,and signed by then President George Bush in 2008. Of the 100 million dollars in grants authorized by congress, grants totaling over 3 million dollars are earmarked for the 7th Congressional District of Illinois.The Second Chance Act grants will provide mentoring, job training, substance ab- ruse, and mental illness case management through the court systems, and other types of support to reduce recidivism.

In attendance at the news conference were representatives from Ceasefire, Bethel New Life, Inc., The John Marshall Law School, Digital Development Corp., Cook County Circuit Court, and Cook County Sheriff's Office among others.

We wish to thank Congressman Davis for the Faith and Support that he has shown our program.

Our mission statement is to ensure that the eduction of our community includes technology and its applications. The DigitalDevelopment Corporation (D.D.C.) was created to teach our youths, and ex-offenders, how to use websites to gather information needed to compete on the world stage.

In order to prepare our community residents to fill the jobs that will be created with the recovery from this recession we find ourselves mired in, the Digital Development Corporation will continue to offer community residents, and second chance individuals classes in computer refurbishing, and computer repair. Thanks to the generous donation of recyclable electronics from Corporations, Schools, Small businesses,and individuals used by students to work with.The North Lawndale Digital Job Training Program we will prepare our grads to pass the Comp TlA A+ certification. We will allow our grads to get additional training refurbishing , and repairing computers in our main office, creating low cost computers for sale, thus reducing the amount of E-Waste that finds it way to landfills in the United States, or becoming part of the tons of E-Waste that is being shipped to third world countries around the world.

The Digital Development Corporation is now in the process of starting our 15th class on the 10th of September, 2010. The North Lawndale Digital Job Training Program will consist of Computer Basics, Internet Navigation, and Computer Repair. Students will also be given entrepreneurial information such as starting their own companies, filing papers of incorporation, and which states to register in. They will be thought how to create business cards, and sales fliers. For those who are not ready to start their own company, right now, resume writing and Interview skill will also be taught.

These days we are being buried under mountains of the waste of an industry that did not exist one hundred (100) years ago. Tons of waste created as a by product of the technological age we live in today. Electronic equipment are thrown away each year due to "Planned Obsolescence"; Products engineered to be replaced within three (3) years by a newer version of the same product. The term Planned Obsolescence was first used in the automobile industry. In the Electronics industry the rate of technological upgrading happens on the scale of Months. It is known fact that every six (6) months Processing speed , and byte recovery rate more than doubles.The discarding of obsolete electronics, not broken ,or non-functioning equipment, just to feed into our desire to have the newest, or the latest version of a certain model.

What ever happened to that Walkman, or that Four Channel amplifier, Or that eight (8) track Tape Player you just had to have to keep up with New Technology?

Illinois' new Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act took effect on January 1, 2010, and was the second bill to be enacted in a Midwestern state. At the time of its passage in late 2008, it was the first state e-waste bill in the nation to include printers in the list of covered electronic devices. Like other producer responsibility bills, Illinois' Act requires electronics manufacturers to pay for the cost of recycling or refurbishing tens of millions of pounds of discarded computers, monitors, printers, and televisions. But the bill includes a number of other features designed to accomplish specific objectives in Illinois. Examples are extra credit for electronics that are refurbished instead of recycled, extra credit for e-waste collected in rural counties, and specific recycling goals for manufacturers, with accompanying penalties and a landfill ban to back them up. The Act is the nation's only e-waste law to include separate formulas for television manufacturers and information technology manufacturers.

Recyclers and Refurbishes. Under the E-Waste Act,

A Recyclers is a person who uses a process, method, or technique to collect, separate, or process the electrical equipment and return raw materials or products into the economic mainstream.

A Refurbisher is a party who processes the electrical equipment for reuse.

Phone or cell phone carriers and manufacturers with existing recycling programs are excluded from this group. The recyclers and Refurbisher must register with the Agency prior to January 1, 2010, and prior to January 1 of every year thereafter. The registrant must provide basic information about each location that manages and accepts the electrical equipment. The registration fee for 2010 is $2,000 and it increases annually based on inflation. The E-Waste Act subjects these entities to a whole host of record keeping and environmental and safety standards, including an annual audit of these standards by a qualified professional. Additionally, companies that choose to recycle or refurbish the electronic equipment covered by the E-Waste Act must procure commercial general liability and pollution legal liability insurance with minimum limits as set forth in the statute.

As we go further into the murky waters of the E -Waste scandal we will try to not only expose our readers to what is going wrong with this well intentioned program, but ways to work towards reduce the problems created by E - Waste.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is the Governmental agency set up to create and administer the guidelines set down by Congress with reguard's to the control of Waste and the manufacturing process that reintroduces Carbon into the atmosphere.
